Support Local Food Week (June 1 – June 8)

Posted On Wednesday June 03, 2020

The good weather is upon us and local farmers’ markets are set to open. This is a great time to talk about the many benefits of buying from our local producers.

We are grateful to farmers and the work they do each and every day to provide us with safe and nutritious food to enjoy.

COVID-19 Considerations

Farmer's Markets will be working closely with their local health units to ensure public safety protocols are in place to help keep you safe. While it may feel different than prior years, one thing is certain – the commitment of each and every person setting up a booth to offer you delicious, locally grown fruits and vegetables, meats and cheeses, breads and baked goods and more.

The importance of buying local

  • Creates strong communities
    • higher economic growth means healthier communities
  • Improves our environment
    • our farmers love the land and work hard to ensure it will sustain future generations
  • It’s delicious!
    • buying local food means it is fresher and nutritious and with over 200 different products grown and produced by Ontario farmers the selection is huge.

Shout out to our very own Ilderton Farmer’s Market

We are fortunate to have our very own farmers market which opens Saturdays between 8am-Noon starting June 13, 2020.

A quick search of the internet will lead to the many Pick-Your-Own farms, working farms open to the public and farmers markets in your area.

Something to keep in mind when visiting a working farm

  • Park your vehicle in designated areas only.
  • For your own safety, visit only identified areas.
  • Please keep an eye on your children to ensure a fun, safe visit.
  • Keep closed gates closed and opened gates open.
  • Dispose of garbage in receptacles.
  • Always wash your hands after touching any animals. Remember farm animals are domesticated, not tamed.
