Water Shield (Overland Flood)

Changing weather means water damage is a big concern for everyone. That is why Middlesex Mutual Insurance is pleased to bring you our water shield coverage protection.

Talk to a Middlesex agent to see if you are eligible for coverage.

Our enhanced water damage protection covers:

  • Homes
  • Renters
  • Seasonal properties

Overland flood damage

Flood protection matters, even if you don't live near water. Our weather is changing. We're having more severe storms, more often. Flooding can occur anywhere, with no warning. Our overland flood damage coverage includes:

  • Overflow of a river or stream
  • Sudden change in lake water levels
  • Bursting of a dam, dike or levee
  • $5,000 for prevention

Ground water damage

Long periods of rainfall could result in a rising water table due to ground saturation. This may cause ground water to enter your home through basement walls, foundation or floors. Our water shield offers protection against sudden and accidental ground water entering your home.

Surface water damage

Heavy rainfall can overwhelm city drainage systems causing pooling and ponding of water that flows out into streets and nearby homes. This surface water can then end up in your basement. We cover the sudden and accidental entrance of surface water.

Sewer backup

We cover backing up or escape of water from a sewer, drain, sump pump or septic system and $1,000 for mitigation.

Sewer and water line failure coverage

We cover damage to your home caused by a leak, break, tear, rupture or collapse of a water and/or sewer line connected to your home.

What can you do?

Understanding floods is an important step in preparing for them. Flood events lead to water where it shouldn't be.

  • Preparation is a key step to helping reduce the risk of water damage. Our loss prevention page provides more links to websites with information you need to prepare your home.
  • The Insurance Bureau of Canada can also help you learn how you can protect yourself from water-related damage.
  • If you are insured with Middlesex Mutual and have a water claim contact claims support.
  • Talk to your local government about incentives or rebate programs for:
    • Installing sewer backflow valves,
    • Rain barrels, and
    • Disconnecting downspouts from municipal sewers.
